PROJECT GIVE NIGHT:DOWNTOWN 001
On Friday night, August 4th 2017, The Giving Project held the first Project Give Night:Downtown, a major local homeless street outreach. Watch the breakdown below for a preview of what we do.
As people are dining or bar-hopping in downtown El Paso, we bring people together from the general public in San Jacinto Plaza where after a brief and detailed orientation, they become volunteers for the night and are partnered with registered nurses who serve as group leaders.
The group leaders take their small group of volunteers to specific areas of downtown, analyzed for homeless concentration using current resources for knowledge and data. During a group’s time in their select area, group leaders stand back as the volunteers from the general public individually distribute a Life:PAK to someone in need one-by-one with an organic approach. Small introduction, present the Life:PAK, offer to review contents, and end with the question, “Is there anything else that we can help you with?”
Their answer can change the rest of their life.
HOPE WITH A PLAN
By relieving hygiene needs, hunger, and looking after the wellbeing of the homeless in our area, the contents of our Life:PAK help bridge the gap between immediate care and long-term restoration.
Whenever anyone receives a Life:PAK, they are encouraged to request any additional assistance in addition to the backpack’s contents. Whether it be medical attention through wound treatment or support with government assistance, we leverage our connections with many local partner nonprofits to meet any requests.
These partnerships are active collaborations to provide any additional aid to any homeless man, woman, and child in need. This is how we strive to develop the personal relationships necessary to gradually influence the choice of housing for those who need it.
We are inviting you to be part of the change; the kind of change that gives real hope. From our home to yours, let’s bring the homeless home. We are El Paso. We are The Giving Project.
